Weird mail flow issue - duplicate email with mail enabled contacts

We have SharePoint Farms.  In order to get mail to them, we install smtp on them, then setup a corporate email address for their project.  That mailbox forwards call mail to a mail enabled contact with the servers name as part of the smtp address. Something like..

Statistic@domain.com > Statistic@Server.domain.com

Then the sharepoint list picks it up.  We just migrated from Exchange 2007 to 2013 in the last 8 days.  After moving the mailboxes, one of them is sometimes duplication email.  That is..

Mail comes in to statistic.domain.com, that inbox only shows one email, when it's forwarded to the mail contact and then to the SharePoint server, it shows up as two email.

These emails almost always have attachments.  Sometimes two attachments.

I'm not sure when the email is showing up on the SharePoint server as two emails.

Thoughts?

out of office notification not working with external domain

out of office notification not working with external domain

After enable the Auto Reply on Exchange 2013 MailBox i am unable to get "out of office" allert on any external domain.

I already CHeck :

1. Enable automatic replies
Set-RemoteDomain -AutoReplyEnabled $true
Enable automatic forwards
Set-RemoteDomain AutoForwardEnabled $true
Set-RemoteDomain AllowedOOFType $External

2. et-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity "Server\EWS (Default Web Site)" -InternalURL -ExternalURL -BasicAuthentication:$true
3. Check the SMART host is pointed or not. and found OK rest of the mail communication with External Domain is working fine.
4. Local users are able to receive the "Out of office" notification but issue is with the External DOmain.

Need Help :

1. Find the issue. 
2. Fix this issue.
3. How to find the RCA of this issue.
4. any idea to avoid this issue in future.

Public Folder forward option "Leave message intact" not working

I've seen a few older postings about this, but none of them have a solution.  We've upgraded to Exchange 2013 and we're using Public Folder rules to forward messages. When we set the forward type to be "Leave message intact", the message never gets forwarded.  The other two options "Standard" and "Insert message as an attachment" work fine.  In Exchange 2007 the "Leave message intact" option worked also.  I've seen some suggestions to use transport rules, but that won't work for what we're trying to do, so I'm wondering if there's another workaround for this issue.

FQDN on EHLO for External

If I telnet to my exchange 2013 server and do an EHLO it returns the local server name and not the external FQDN.

Mxtoolbox.com flags this as a problem as it doesn't match my reverse DNS which is to the external FQDN.

How do I change it to return my external FQDN ?

Incoming/Outgoing mails moves into "Drafts Folder" rather than moving into Inbox/SentItems

Hi,

I have configured MS Exchange Server 2013 internally within our organization, i have an application that has some mail server cand email account configurations, had configured in it.

When i try to send an email from my app, the mail flows into the "Drafts" folder rather than going into the "Inbox" folder, when i try to send an email from the email client (outlook web access), the mail again flows into the Drafts folder rather than moving into the "Sent Items" Folder.

Could some one help me ?

Shared mailbox e-mail notifications

Hello,

We have a Shared Mailbox and have full access to it.  Currently, when a user(s) send us an email, the email goes directly to its Inbox.  What we wanted to accomplish is to have this email also forwarded to our own Primary Mailbox with a title not just a display coming From a User who sent the message but the Actual Display Name of the Shared Mailbox. I've already tried the forwarding feature in Exchange and it's working, but not exactly what I wanted.  The process that we have in our Lotus Notes before is when an email is received from this shared mailbox, let say, HELPDESK, the HELPDESK shared mailbox will then notify the Owner(s) of this mailbox on their primary mailbox (Inbox) with the display name of from: HELPDESK instead of the actual sender.  I hope, I'm explaining it clearly.  I was wondering if there's any feature in either Exchange or Outlook client where we could set this up, thanks.

How to configure anonymous relay connector that also bypasses distribution group authentication setting "Only senders inside my organization" ?

I've created a relay receive connector that allows anonymous users, scoped it to my application server IP's and even ran the powershell command to allow the ANONYMOUS logon the ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipient permission.

All is working well except when the application is configured to send to distribution groups that are set to only accept mail from internal senders, in this case the email is rejected.. as it should be. We have literally hundreds of nested distribution groups and we would rather not change them to allow email from unauthenticated senders so that leaves me with figuring out how to change my receive connector to deliver these messages as if they are from an authenticated sender.

I know that I can just enable the "Externally Secured" mechanism and add Exchange Server to the permissions groups but I read that this is not a good practice. Is it possible to assign only the specific permission needed to the connector via powershell much I like I did with the ms-Exch-SMTP-Accept-Any-Recipient permission?

Hello,

For the last few days some my incoming emails to my on site Exchange 2013 are being bounced back with the sender getting the following error.

A communication failure occurred during the delivery of this message. Please try to resend the message later. If the problem continues,
contact your email admin.<o:p></o:p>

mailservername.domain name.com gave this error:

command not implemented

Are there any log files in Exchange that I can enable to see why they are being bounced?

Any suggestions will eb very much appreciated.

Cluster resource 'File Share Witness' "\\fileshare name" in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed.

Hi Team,

I keep getting this alert very often twice in a Day from OP manager

"Cluster resource 'File Share Witness' "\\fileshare name" in clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' failed."

Started recently after a DR upgrade on all of the systems 

DAG setup 

5 in active and 4 in passive 

Node and file share majority setup

I can see the fileshare and the alternate fileshare is accessible . The Cname has permission on the fileshare.

There is no issues with the DAG IP as well all are reachable and assigned correctly with the right IPS and  subnets

exchange 2010 

I checked the following things

1) Ran Get-DatabaseAvailabiltyGroup and im not able to find any issues 

2)Ran Get-MailboxDatabaseCopyStatus and i dont have any unhealthy copies

3) I'm able to perform a manual failover to my DR site without any issues , however not sure about the automatic failover

My DAG keeps showing red all the times in the OP manager which i suspect definitely there is some issues with the automatic Failover.

I noticed 1 thing

The NIC binding  is not in correct order in the DR site. May be this is causing the issue ?

When i run Get-ClusterGroup and Get-ClusterResource i can see all the resources are online without any issues 

I can see only these 2 events in the cluster logs  only for my DR servers 

The Cluster service failed to bring clustered service or application 'Cluster Group' completely online or offline. One or more resources may be in a failed state. This may impact the availability of the clustered service or application.

File share witness resource 'File Share Witness (\\fileshare)' failed to arbitrate for the file share '\\fileshare'. Please ensure that file share '\\fileshare' exists and is accessible by the cluster.

Any help towards the same is much appreciated

Inbound email not appearing in delivery reports in ECP 2013

I am trying to run a report on all incoming mail to a specific mailbox. When I log into ECP and navigate through tomail flow -> delivery reports I don't seem to be able to search all incoming to a specific mailbox. For example, noreply@company.com sent an email to user@company.com - I can log into OWA as user@ and see an email from noreply@. I can see emails that user@ has sent outbound, but no inbound.

However, when I log into ECP and add "user@" into the 'Mailbox to search' textfield and clicksearch I don't see the email item.

Is there a limitation on what can be searched in ECP, perhaps I need to use PowerShell? Does anyone know the answer to this?

Edge Server Deployment Without TLS

Hi.

My organization us using the following Exchange server: 1 x Exchange 2010 w/SP3 (Mailbox Role) and 1 x Exchange 2010 w/SP3 (CAS + Hub Transport).

Emails are currently sent out and received using a smart host e.g an anti spam appliance

We are planning to remove the smart host and introduce Exchange Edge server to carry out this task.

I have the following questions:

1. Is it necessary to have a load balanced edge server to send/receive email? Can I deploy a single edge server instead? I have about 500 mailbox users.

2. Is it necessary to use TLS between the edge server and the CAS server? We are currently using a cloud based email threat prevention solution that secures messages using TLS from their Cloud ETP --> our Smart Host --> our CAS server

Due to this implementation, there were instances when emails containing malware attachments got through our firewall without detection.

If we implement an Edge server, can we do away with TLS between the Edge server and the CAS server? Is there any repercussion or downside to doing this?

Please advise.

Update - I migrated these mailboxes from one forest to another using the Cross-Forest Mailbox Migration tool in Exchange 2013.  The messages began once the Cross-Forest Migration completed.  All the permissions migrated and worked correctly, it just looks like it is causing a problem somewhere else.

Sending mails to a restricted DL from a Public Folder

Hi gents,

We're currently working with an Exch 2010 instance and got a request for which we can't find a solution.

We've a DL which is senders restricted to avoid the overflow of mails due to the amount of users in this DL.

Here's the challenge :

We have a user which is member of a public folder and she wants to send mails on behalf of that PF to the restricted DL.

How can we arrange this access as she doesn't need to send the mail from her private address ?

Schannel Fatal Alert (70)

Hey guys,

Exchange 2010 latest SP3 with RU 10.

Been getting a lot of these, I installed wireshark and changed it's filter to ssl, once I was able to determine that alert 70 meant protocol version not supported.

I managed to link it to my boses phone Note 4, running android 5.01...

Thing is at first he was having issues with ActiveSync internally but not externally (Split DNS for our activesync.

I went into his settings and unchecked "use SSL" -> Auth Failed (AS it should as SSL is required) -> "Use SSL" -> internal ActiveSync started to work, at which point I had hoped the events would stop.. I did this just before lunch today...

As you can tell by the timestamp they are still occurring... does anyone know what I could possible check to help resolve the issue?

I checked the packets from other ip addresses and they all seem to be using the same protocol version of TLS 1.0.

Any thoughts welcome, and thanks!

Trouble with transport rule creation

We recently updated our environment to Exchange 2013 SP1.. So far so good, but we have come across a problem we can't seem to figure out.  In our 2010 enviornment, we were using an edge transport server to apply various legal disclaimers to our outbound email messages (based on recipient domain).  We have since deployed a 2013 edge transport server, but can't seem to get the command together that will allow us to create these rules again.  

This is the command I'm executing:

New-TransportRule -Name 'contoso.com TLS Footer' -Enabled $True -Mode Enforce -RecipientAddressMatchesPatterns '@contoso.com$' -SentToScope NotInOrganization -ApplyHtmlDisclaimerLocation Append -ApplyHtmlDisclaimerFallbackAction Reject -ApplyHtmlDisclaimerText 'The message was protected by the contoso.com TLS Connection.' 

This is the error:

Syntax of PTR Record for External Domain

Hello All......My domain is listed in the blacklisted domains.  Following is the message.

RATS-Dyna - Probable PC or home connection infected with a Trojan, Bot, or Emailer Program -- If you are listed in the Spamrats / RATS-Dyna blacklist and you operate your own mail-server, you likely have no valid PTR-Record. If you are simply a home email user, you have a dynamic IP Address and may need to contact your ISP for assistance. If you operate a domain name and are using your ISP for SMTP-Authentication, try contacting your DNS Provider to use their SMTP-Services instead.

I am only guessing that I need to create PTR Record for my domain which BTW does not exist.  I would appreciate if someone could guide me as to how I can create this in my external domain by example like IP Part and Name Part.

Restrict Test-Mailflow messages being journaled

Hello,

Any one have any idea, how to restrict messages generated by system mailbox (Test-Mailflow 5959e391-1174-4aba-abed-28e86f0103d3 66c7004a-6860-44b2-983a-327aa3c9cfec) being journaled.

We have mimecast journalling enabled, but seems all these messages are also being journaled.
