Receive connector for mail relay

$

Hi,

We moved from exchange 2010 to exchange 2013, we need to configure mail relay connector so that exchange 2013 could receive emails coming from different sources (printer for scan to email, sharepoint....)

I followed an article to create a receive connector for that, I allowed anonymous users (even if on sharepoint and the printer we provide credentials for authentication), We also added the IP addresses of the printer and sharepoint on this receive connector.

It starts working, but after few hours or minutes (it's really random), it just stops working, I looked on error on exchange event viewer, and I found this:

Warning event id 1035 : Inbound authentication failed with error LogonDenied for Receive connector Default Frontend ExchSrv. The authentication mechanism is Ntlm. The source IP address of the client who tried to authenticate to Microsoft Exchange is [Printer IP Address].

From the message I see that the receiver was "Default Frontend ExchSrv" and it is a "FrontendTransport" role. But my receiver I created is a "HubTransport" Role.

I went to the receiver "Default Frontend ExchSrv" and I enabled "Exchange Users" , it started working again. But I don't know for how long.

My question really is that on documentation for the mail relay for printers, It was mentioning to create a receiver with HubTransport role, but it seems it's the FrontendTransport role receiver that is receiving the request. Can someone explain this scenario to me? Do I still need the mail relay receiver I created?

Thank you.

Hello,

Here is the scoop . . . I can send messages to accounts that reside on my Exchange servers and to external accounts I am not hosting.  If I try to send messages to accounts that reside on the Linux/Postfix server, the messages sit in the Exchange message queue.  An example of one of the messages "stuck" is:

Identity: Server0\Submission\660
Subject: TEST @ 1937

Here are my send connector settings:

Address Space - SMTP, *, 1

Network - Use domain name system (DNS) "MX" records to route mail automatically & Use the External DNS Lookup settings on the transport server

Source Servers - The private IP addresses of my two Exchange servers.

Any ideas?

Hello,

Please help, basically we have the same issue as the following post, only the proposed answer is not the final answer and the issue persists:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-AU/exchangesvrsecuremessaging/thread/76f4b8b5-7cfe-41c1-a3ef-47aa036612a6

Environment:
Windows Server 2012 DC edition
Exchange 2013 Std edition
Outlook 2013 (Office 2013 Std edition)
No Malware protection enabled within Exchange 2013
No Antivirus application on Windows Server

Issue:
Same problem experienced with two separate installations, random e-mails are stuck in the Exchange Submission Queue with Delivery Type Undefined and retry error "A storage transient failure has occurred during content conversion."

Workaround:
Running the following command will clear the queue but causes adverse effects:

Get-RemoteDomain|Set-RemoteDomain-TNEFEnabled $true

Would be great if Microsoft could help out here, we are sort of stretching relationships with our customers..

Using Exchange server 2010 only for sharing calendars, contact lists, and email client backup

$

Current configuration - Exchange server 2010 retrieves email, distributes incoming email to mailboxes, sends outgoing mail out, shares calendars and contacts, allows OWA users to login for email, also external users VPN into the LAN and pickup their emails through Outlook when attached through the vpn.

Would like to disable the retrieval, distribution of email by the exchange server, also the OWA feature. Keep the contact and calendar sharing, and use the exchange server to backup our outlook clients.  On the outlook clients add a pop3 client as the default account that would send/receive emails, and keep them in the exchange mailbox.  Exchange would become a secondary account in the Outlook account settings.

Does this sound possible? If so how would you proceed?

MX record for Exchange 2013

The transpot role in EX2010 has been moved to mailbox role in EX2013, mailbox role will send message without using CAS.

So, for internal network, the MX record should point to a Mailbox Role server or CAS server?

Can't send out of office replies Exchange 2013 internal or external

We have a new install of Exchange 2013 with latest patch roll up.  We then connected outlook 2010 which was already attached to an exchange 2010 server on a different domain. (outlook attached to exchange 2010 in domain A and exchange 2013 in domain b)   We can set out of office in outlook or owa etc and it reflects so in PowerShell on the 2013 exchange server once we do so, but auto replies will not send external or internal. We see nothing in the mail queue. I then created a new mailbox on the 2013 server which wasn't ever attached to the old 2010 exchange server and OoO works fine internal and external...I do see the reply go through the queue for this mailbox.  Could outlook being connected to the other 2010 exchange server have corrupted ooo rules on the exchange 2013 server?  Please Help...

Considerations for using an Exchange 2010 Mailbox Server for Journaling Mailboxes in an Exchange 2013 enviroment

From the MS documentation it appears that not much is different between 2010 and 2013 and that it is supported, but I was curious if anyone has 1st hand experience in doing so. The reason why we are considering this setup is that our current email compliance software version only supports Exchange 2010 and this will be the portion of our email setup that will be upgrade last due to how many departments are involved in the decision making process for the it’s replacement/update.

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me. I have removed all the receive connectors in exchange 2013 and no email is working now (internal or external). Does anyone know how I can restore the default receive connectors? Thanks in advanced. Msuk

direct SMTP into folder / subfolder of a mailbox?

$

Hi,

we are just about to implement Exchange 2013, coming from a generic Postfix+Cyrus IMAP mailserver setup.
Now I am heavily missing a feature that was standard for me for decades:

A possibility to directly send a mail into a folder / subfolder of a mailbox via SMTP.

Isnt that possible by Exchange?

What I want to use it for?
Our e-mail archiving system has a source mailbox with a subfolder for each user in it. If a mail comes in for user1@company.com it should be bcc'ed to import.user1@company.com where "import" is a mailbox and user1 is a folder.
I cant use e-mail enabled modern public folders here, as they are not accessible by IMAP anymore and the e-mail archiving tool wants to import by IMAP.

Thanks a lot for any help,

Matthias

Using exchange 2013 on a local server to host website emails

Hi,

I have installed Exchange 2013 on my local home pc (yes uses the public ISP) and all the configuration works fine and well.

So this is what I name my local exchange server "something@scubatimes.com" so any one internally on the same domain forest are able to communicate and also able to send the email to other domains like @google.com, @outlook.com and such no issues with that.

The issue is when replying from @google.com to @scubatimes.com, say I have the website scubatimes.com hosted on hostgator and they use POP and not a very big fan of that. So want to know how to change the exchange server 2013 on my local PC to be the default mail handler for all the emails that are incoming and outgoing by the scubatimes.com site. I am thinking I need to use MX records (or something to do with it) not sure how to do it exactly. Would require some assistance tks for the help.

Unable to STARTTLS from External Hosts

BACKGROUND

1) I have received a request, or rather and ORDER, to implement domain-secure email (TLS) between my domain and some other external domain.Their side is fully configured and operational.

My side as far as Exchange server is concerned is fully operational. My Exchange Edge is published to the internet through ISA 2006 and this appears to be the genesis of my problem. When i attempt to test my TLS configuration from a host 'outside' of my network (I used checktls.com) i encounter the following error:

[000.389]Connected to server
[000.777]<--220 ********************************************************************************************
[000.777]We are allowed to connect
[000.778] -->EHLO checktls.com

250-XXXXXXXD
250-XXXXXXE
250 XXXXXXF
[001.150]We can use this server
[001.151]TLS is not an option on this server

Note the resulting error: "TLS is not an option on this server", even though i know TLS is fully configured, public certificates and all other prerequisites met.

Also note the "XXXXXXA" AND "XXXXXXXXB" gibberish the server is responding with.

2) Now, when i attempt a telnet to my Edge server from a host on the 'inside' of my network, i get the following response:

220 mail.mydomain.com  ESMTP MAIL Service ready at Tue, 21 May 2013 10:00:47 +0300
EHLO insidehost.mydomain.local
250-mail.mydomain.com Hello [internal ip address]

250-X-EXPS NTLM
250-8BITMIME
250-BINARYMIME
250-CHUNKING
250-XEXCH50
250 XSHADOW

It appears all the SMTP verbs are allowed from 'inside' my network. It says in the Microsoft article to disable the SMTP filter on the ISA server and i have done so but this has not helped!

I am seeking for some advice on how to solve this problem. Please note i have already disabled SMTP filter on ISA 2006 enterprise level and publishing rule as advised by Microsoft.

Not sure where exactly this question fits in.

Thanks all!

(2010 - 2013). fortunately External mails working

i tried to sent an email from Exchange 2010 mailbox to 2013 mailbox and ii got Delivery delay mail

"
This message hasn't been delivered yet. Delivery will continue to be attempted.

The server will keep trying to deliver this message for the next 1 days, 19 hours and 57 minutes. You'll be notified if the message can't be delivered by that time."

Read Receipts as Not Readed with blank source

Hi,

I'm having the following issue. We got an Exchange Server 2013 CU1 upgraded from the RTM version running on a Hyper-V VM under Windows Server 2012 (CAS and MB in one server).

The problem is as follows: When a user sends a mail message from Outlook/OWA, inmediatly receives a Read Receipt saying that the user deleted the message without being read. It started when we upgraded to CU1 and even we tried setting up a rule deleting the read receipts originating from our organisation, without results.

What could be generating the issue? Any help in this matter will be appreciated!

Error when I try to send a mail to a public folder

I have two Exchange servers that are set up with TODAY. They work fine with the regular user mailboxes.
But I have problems with public folders. Due to some replication problems we have chosen to have public folders on one Exchange server (SRV MAIL01), but now I get some errors when sending to some of the mail enablede public folders.

# 554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception: ObjectNotFoundException.MapiExceptionNotFound; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message Could not open folder

I can see that the error comes from the other Exchange server (SRV MAIL02) which has no public folders.

I could not find a solution, is there anyone who can help.

Dear All,

My Customer need to disable User Account and Mailbox in Exchange 2007. After disable both, they need to do forwarding message from disable mailbox to another mailbox(Boss's Mailbox) for tracking. Then I set transporter rule for choose rule "Blind carbon copy (Bcc) the message to..." for forwarding message to their manager but that messages can't forward because mailbox was disabled.

Do you have another way help about this requirement? If my customer need to disable User Account and User's Mailbox of resign person and then forwarding that message to their manager

  Thank you very much

Receive Connector doesn't respond except from server itself

I am in the process of migrating to Exchange 2013 (from 2010)

I have installed 2 2013 servers (1 cas and 1 mbx). I created a database and migrated some pilot users. The users have been able to work for about a week without issues. But since last weekend, they don't receive incoming mail from external domains. Internal incoming mail as well as all outgoing mail works fine.

I have pinpointed the issue to the following: The receive connector listenes to port 25 (I can telnet the port). But it only responds (220 <CASservername>.<domain>.local Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service ready at Mon, 3 Jun 2013 14:33:38 +0200)

It does not respond to a telnet session from any other location (e.g. the edge server or a server in the same subnet). The connection is established but no response is shown. As soon as the first character is typed, the connection is broken.

ExRCA showes "A connection was established but a banner was never received" so this points to the same issue.

To recap: telnet <ipaddress CAS> 25 does give response from CAS server itself, but not from any other location.

I allready tested with the FW off. AV is SCEP 2012.

How to troubleshoot this issue? The only thing that has changed over the weekend, is the installation of the latest security patches.

Regards,
Stephan
