So I just changed my MX record to EOP for my on-premise Exchange environment maybe 20 minutes ago. I've sent a number of test emails from externally and they flow through fine.
My lowest MX record is 5 which is for EOP now, but because my DNS, DNSMadeEasy doesnt allow hostnames only IPs, I pinged my domain.com.mail.protection.outlook.com and used that IP address with my DNS.Is that okay for a EOP setup?
I'm not quite brave enough to delete my old MX records, so the 10 and 20 records still point directly to my on premise servers. All MX records have a TTL of 300/5min.
So, question is, how do I know EOP is receiving and filtering my emails?I mean if my MX 5 record for EOP isnt working, obviously the 10 record will just jump in.
Looking in the Office 365 Admin overview under mail protection I still got "0 messages received, 0 blocked by filtering". But I'm sure thats not in real time, or am I wrong? If its not in real time, how much does it lag?
I've ran the MS Remote Connectivity Analyzer: Verify MX Record and Outbound Connector Test and it fails with:
Testing MX record and outbound connector configuration for domain 'mydomain.com'.
The Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer failed to verify the proper configuration for the MX record or the outbound connector associated with domain 'mydomain.com'.
|
But that doesn't tell me much to be honest.
I don't consider deleting my 10 and 20 MX records an option for testing.
Thanks.
